I treated my dad to a family lunch here for Father's Day and even though it was 1) a Sunday, 2) lunch hour rush, and 3) a well known family holiday, the waitlist moved along quickly and the service was prompt. My first impression was already good, but the experience continued to get better. The menu is great, with plenty of classic Taiwanese and Shanghainese staples and a couple of respectful but experimental dishes. Lots of xiao long bao options. Drink menu has a lot of variety. It's super pretty inside! Great for a special occasion. EVERYTHING we tried was so good. Portions are on the smaller side, but it felt like the perfect amount of food for us. EVERYTHING we tried was so good. Portions are on the smaller side, but it felt like the perfect amount of food for us. We ordered:
- Wild mushroom fried rice (5++/5): This was the surprise hit at our table. I would come back just for this alone
- Beef roll (5/5): Delicious!! These aren't rice rolls, but they're rolled in what looks like more like pastry.
- Wagyu beef xiao long bao (4/5): I don't think wagyu beef was necessary if it's going to be hidden in soupy xiao long bao anyway, but we ordered it for the special occasion. This was still delicious but I'll go with more of the classics in the future.
- Matcha lava xiao long bao (3/5): This was a little too sweet/overpowering for me but my matcha loving dad really enjoyed these!
This was my first time visiting, but wow, this restaurant quickly flew up my rankings of favorite places to eat in Houston!
- Ambiance: 5/5
- Food: 5/5
- Service: 5/5
